Twenty minutes to the south is Lexington where one can visit the campuses of Washington and Lee University or The Virginia Military Institute. To the east, a short but scenic ride through the mountains, is Charlottesville, home to Thomas Jefferson and the University of Virginia. Richmond is 100 miles east and Washington DC is 150 miles north; all roads leading to these destinations have incredible views of the Shenendoah Valley.
