"We just got back from Ashton House, and once you've stayed there you'll feel like one of the family. I've traveled through Europe and have stayed at various B&B's in te USA, but have never been made to fell more welcome or at home. Both Caroline and Dick are the consumate inn keepers, who understand the meaning of service and that people stay at inns and B&B's for the "personal" touch and the friendship. We can't wait to return and are looking forward to a game of darts in Dick's Country Pub. - John & Renja Murray Coinjock N.C."
"We stayed there on September the 6th, and the 7th is our wedding anniversary. When we arrived in Staunton we stoped at one of the other B & B's not very friendly. We called the Ashton and Mrs. Chamberlain told us to just come on. When we arrived we were very impressed with the location, (a country setting) still inside the city limits. Our host couldn't have been any nicer, they gave us suggestions on where to dine, and when we arrived back at our room we found a bottle of chilled champagne waiting on us with two glasses and chocolate on the pillows. When we got up the next morning after a good nights sleep, we were headed off to camp. Not wanting to leave at all, we do intend on returning and staying at the Ashton and checking out Staunton a little bit closer. Just wanted to say thanks for everything one more time. "This was our 4th visit. we always feel like we're family, and always treated like the most special guests! our golden retriever loves it here too."
"Exquisite house - built in 1860, on verdant rolling hills, 1 mile from a small, picturesque Virginia town. For us it was a perfect blend of Southern hospitality and romantic charm. The rooms all have unique individual personalities, great energy & an airy, real feeling of HOME. Be surrounded by elegant antiques, lovely art & prints, stories about the area (and the South in general) - EVEN A WORKING PLAYER PIANO! The breakfasts are simply awe-inspiring! Fresh fresh fresh eggs from the Ashton's own 'Ladies of the Coop" & Caroline's wonderful creativity in the kitchen had us wondering each night what would be for breakfast the next day! The friendly owners have both lived all over the world, bringing a world-class sensibility to each fine detail at this hidden gem of a B&B. Romantic drinks on the front porch at sunset, flowers from the gardens in vases all over the inn, fine chocolates on your pillow each night, the scent of baking wafting through the air as the sun comes up - this Inn is definitely why people seek out B&Bs!!! Do NOT miss an opportunity to stay at the Ashton Country House - also - they are in the middle of renovating a historic barn on the property to include a conference center and authentic English pub. The BF can't wait to get back to have a pint or two there with Richard! (Brides & Re-Marrying Brides - book it NOW before your date is taken - it will be THE place to have the country wedding/anniversary soiree' of your DREAMS!) The gardens are photography ready!!! I simply can't wait for our next trip to Staunton! The lovely memories we made there will draw us back to the Ashton Country House for each milestone... In short - Do NOT go to the Shenandoah Valley without staying there."
"Everything about the inn was terrific, t6 rooms, the hospitality, the owners, the food (breakfast was outstanding). The setting is great- open spaces yet only 1 mile form great shopping and eating in Stauton. One day was treated like a queen."
"I was travelling with my 91-year old mother to a family reunion in NC and was not sure what to expect, as staying at a B&B was a first for both of us. I wanted the trip to be extra special. Innkeepers Dick & Caroline could not have been more helpful. They thoroughly pampered Mom and went out of their way to make both of us comfortable. We arrived late and they gave us leftovers from their own dinner so we would not have to go back out. That was just the beginning. Ashton is like a small farm, with 23 acres. Very soothing and peaceful. Big old trees. The decor throughout is gorgeous. Bed was very comfy. Both Dick & Caroline are wonderful cooks - in fact, all guests are given a free cookbook. Eggs are from their own chickens. Plus, there was sherry and two wine glasses on the mantle for an end of day nip. Homemade cookies and chocolates were available at any time. Two friendly cats - a prime reason we picked this B&B - it is very animal-friendly. We returned on the way back home a week later and it was even better. Other guests were very interesting conversationists at breakfast on both visits. Breakfasts were outstanding, even on a weekday. Did I mention the player piano and the hundreds of songs Caroline has on hand - she kindly spent time singing with Mom at the piano during eact visit. Both days we were were late in departing - mostly due to talking with Dick & Caroline and enjoying the tranquil environment that was difficult to leave. We plan to return many times. Thank you Ashton!"
